Working Groups

The Humanities Center welcomes proposals for working groups organized by faculty in the humanities and related disciplines. This program supports interdisciplinary groups of faculty and advanced graduate students who wish to explore shared scholarly interests.

Working groups meet regularly throughout the academic year to share work in progress, to read and discuss texts, to undertake scholarly, pedagogical, and/or public-facing activities, and to address broader issues in the humanities and associated fields.

This year, the Humanities Center will fund up to two working groups.  Each one will receive $2000 in funding to support its activities, with the expectation that the working group will put on a public event (e.g., inviting an outside speaker, undertaking a small public humanities project) or produce a tangible outcome (e.g., a co-authored article, new curricular programming).  All funded working groups are expected to submit a brief year-end report of their activities.

Additional funding beyond the original award of $2000 may be available for funded working groups proposing a large-scale public event (e.g., a conference).

Submissions for our Working Group program are closed for the 23-24 academic year. Proposals for the 24-25 academic year should be submitted via this form form no later than June 7, 2024.

Guidelines for proposals:

  1. A brief (1-2 page) summary of the topic the group proposes to address, the relevance of that theme to the humanities and related disciplines, and the ways in which the group intends to address their topic;
  2. The names, departmental affiliations, and contact information for core members of the proposed group as well as names of potential participants;
  3. An estimated budget, listing planned projects and expenses.
